What event did Rizal meet Blumentritt?

Ferdinand Blumentritt was a Sudetan-German professor whose specialty was knowledge of the culture and history of the Philippines, even though he never went there. He first encountered Jose Rizal after he criticized his first novel, Noli me Tangere. The two became friends and Blumentritt even wrote the preface for Rizal's second novel, El Filibusterismo.
